One Word. Countless Possibilities.

Updated: Jul 1

Just over one year ago, Ride On St. Louis opened the barn doors to our Forever Home. What has happened since has exceeded every expectation.

Over the past year alone, hundreds of children and youth from throughout the community participated in off-site outreach, educational experiences, and Ride On St. Louis engagements, introducing them to horses, the equine world, and the unique ways they can enrich lives. At the same time, more than 103 participants walked through the doors of our new barn and experienced meaningful interactions with our equine partners in a safe, welcoming environment designed especially for them.

For many, the outcomes achieved at Ride On St. Louis have been difficult, or even impossible, to replicate in traditional therapeutic settings. Participants build physical strength, communication skills, academic abilities, independence, and self-confidence while discovering renewed purpose and belonging. The impact of this work is best understood through the stories of the people we serve.

One recent milestone from our Helping Hands program demonstrates the extraordinary breakthroughs that emerge when evidence-informed curriculum, dedicated staff, and remarkable horses come together. Cayleen (whose name has been changed for this article) is a 34-year-old woman with significant physical and developmental disabilities who is nonverbal. After approximately twelve weeks of consistent engagement at our center, she spoke audible words. What a profound breakthrough in her ability to express herself and connect with those around her!

Since that first breakthrough, Cayleen's personal support staff has reported that she has spoken several additional times outside of her sessions. For most people, the ability to speak is something they rarely think about. For Cayleen and those who love her, hearing her voice is nothing short of life-changing.

At Ride On St. Louis, we have always been dedicated to creating lasting, meaningful improvements in quality of life by focusing on each individual and the goals that matter most to them and their families. With your help and support, breakthroughs like Cayleen's, found in a single spoken word, continue to be possible.

As always, we are deeply grateful to every participant, family member, volunteer, donor, and community partner who helped make our Forever Home a reality. Because of you, this work and these life-changing outcomes continue. While we've accomplished so much during our first year, our Forever Home is still a work in progress. Upcoming projects include paving our parking lot, installing a front entrance gate to safely enclose the property for our horses, upgrading our portable restroom to provide a more welcoming experience for visitors, renovating the storage side of the barn (a major undertaking), and the project everyone is champing at the bit for: building an outdoor arena for mounted programs and equine conditioning.

Together, we have created far more than a facility, as Cayleen's story so beautifully demonstrates. But this is only the beginning.

Please continue supporting our mission and the life-changing progress of the participants we serve. We are praying for you, and we humbly ask that you keep us in your prayers as well. If you'd like to schedule a visit to tour our Forever Home or have ideas that could help us complete these important infrastructure projects, please give us a call. We'd love to meet you, show you what is happening here, and share the incredible work your support makes possible.
