Volunteer Application (PDF Download)
If you love people and love animals, you qualify! We have a plethora of volunteer opportunities available for all ages, abilities and interests. Individuals, groups, scout troops, businesses —If you or your group is looking to give back to the community, let's work together!
Most program volunteers work alongside our clients, staff and horses as a side-walker. Side-walkers walk next to the side of the horse and are responsible for providing support and stabilization to our clients who need assistance, as well as ensuring the safety of the client. New program volunteers must complete a mandatory training and be at least 14 years of age. The next training day is scheduled for TBD 2020. NEW VOLUNTEERS MUST REGISTER AND CONFIRM SCHEDULE BEFORE ATTENDING. These trainings are typically scheduled 3 times per year. Side-walker training is a prerequisite for horse handlers and leaders.
Our sessions run in the spring and fall for 8-12 consecutive weeks, and in July for a 4 week summer session. Please note there will be limited opportunities for program volunteers in 2020 due to the relocation of our facility. We serve clients on Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays. As a volunteer during a session, we ask that you commit to side-walking for all 8-12 weeks of a session (4 weeks during summer), as consistency is important for our clients. If a side-walker cannot make their scheduled time, we ask for as much notice as possible in order to find a sub for that client. If we have more side-walkers than we need for a treatment or lesson, we would ask for your help in other areas around the facility, i.e. picking up manure, picking up sticks/gumballs in the pastures, etc.
Groups, Grounds & Facility
In addition to our program volunteers we have many opportunities available in other areas of the organization. Volunteers can come individually or as a group (business, school, churches, boy/girl scout troops etc.) and perform age and skill appropriate tasks that may include grounds maintenance, cleaning stalls or tack, painting, repairs or office jobs like filling envelopes, typing or helping prepare for special events. Each year, we schedule several work days in order to keep our facility clean and maintained. Up to 50-70 volunteers came be accommodated for work days. Our next Work Days are scheduled for TBD 2020. Please complete a volunteer form if you'd like to help. (Special arrangements or service days may be set up for your group.)
